The corn dog did not take top honors as the crowd favorite at the Iowa State Fair.
More than 3,200 fair attendees participated in Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual State Fair Straw Poll, conducted on iPads inside Pate’s booth.
Along with Iowa’s gubernatorial and congressional races, attendees voted for Iowa's favorite State Fair food, Iowa's favorite State Fair Grandstand Act and Iowa's favorite celebrity.
The poll is unscientific and intended as entertainment. Here are the final results.
Pork Chop on a Stick: 27%
Corn Dog: 20%
Cookies in a Cup: 18%
Turkey Leg: 6%
Fried Twinkie: 2%
Reba McEntire: 20%
Earth, Wind & Fire: 14%
Jim Gaffigan: 13%
Casting Crowns: 12%
Florida Georgia Line: 12%
John Wayne: 26%
Ashton Kutcher: 21%
Shawn Johnson: 11%
Maddie Poppe: 9%
John Wayne was chosen as Iowa’s favorite celebrity; Reba McEntire garnered the most votes for favorite State Fair Grandstand Act, and Pork Chop on a Stick won favorite State Fair food.

“Thanks to the thousands of Iowans who participated in the State Fair Straw Poll and visited our booth over the past 11 days,” Secretary Pate said. “We helped Iowans register to vote, provided free resources to small business owners, collected many new tributes for our Honor a Veteran with Your Vote program, and encouraged civic engagement to thousands of young people.
